Dear Parents,
Welcome back from the snowy weather. I hope none of you had bad experiences with the snow. The children wrote snow stories this week and worked on remembering to put their names on their papers. We discussed good work habits and talked about doing our work nicely the first time so we do not have to redo it. We finished our work with shapes and fractions in math. In Religion we have been doing the Talk about Touching lessons. Mr. O’Brien was a guest speaker today to talk about gun safety which is included in the program.
This week we continued with long i words in phonics and added the final silent e rules to our Spalding Spelling booklet. We have been enjoying learning about maps and even have a map skills book that we are completing.
Looking ahead a bit, we will be on Mid-winter break on Valentine’s Day so we will not be having a party or card exchange at school this year. Also, the Speech Tournament is coming up March 14. First Graders need to select a 12-14 line published poem and memorize it for the competition. The timeline is as follows:
February 10: Poems selected and a copy brought to school
March 2: Poems memorized
Next week is Catholic Schools Week which we kick off with an all school mass at 9:00 on Sunday. After Mass the teachers will be hosting Coffee ‘n. We hope to see all of you then.
On Thursday the school gathers for Mass which the first graders are preparing. Thursday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM we are having Open House. The children and you are invited to come and see what is going on in the school.
Friday the Reptile Man will be presenting his show at 10:00 and we will be having the annual dads’ hot dog lunch. Lunch is free and includes hot dogs, chips, and soda! Have a great weekend. Mrs. Mackin and Mrs. Kester
Snack next week is Griffin.
