Pre-Kindergarten, Mrs. Alexandra Flugstad

This is her first year teaching Pre-Kindergarten at Holy Rosary School. Holy Rosary is a great place where she truly enjoys being around such enthusiastic students, staff, and parents.

Mrs. Flugstad grew up in Mill Creek, Washington and now lives in Edmonds with her husband Matt. She graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing. She completed her Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 2009 from Whitworth University. She looks forward to continuing her education throughout her teaching career.

She is a full-blooded Greek. Her heritage is something she cherishes and is very proud of. She spent a year living in Thessaloniki, Greece. She is also a huge sports fan! She played basketball and tennis in high school, and she loves attending Gonzaga basketball games when she has the opportunity. She also loves listening to all types of music. She believes music is essential in the classroom, and tries to incorporate it into her students' learning.

In her classroom, she promotes an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. She works hard to build a sense of community among her students, and she emphasizes the idea of teamwork. She values cooperation and collaboration both in her classroom and in working with her peers. She believes that great things can happen when we work together! Holy Rosary is a place where she really feels like part of a strong community.

Pre-Kindergarten Instructional Aide , Mrs. Kathy Ingebretson

The co-lead teacher, Mrs.Kathy Ingebretson, has been in the childcare profession since 1981 and started managing the Holy Rosary Church nursery in 1996. She joined the Pre-Kindergarten program in 2006. She is certified in food handling, First Aid/CPR and S.T.A.R.S.

Kindergarten, Mrs. Pam Wachob

Mrs. Wachob has been the kindergarten teacher at Holy Rosary School for the past ten years. She is delighted to be a parishioner of Holy Rosary Parish as it affords her the opportunity to worship with many of our school families.

She received her degree in Elementary education from the University of Cincinnati. She obtained her Masters Degree in the field of learning disabilities from Xavier University.

She is blessed to have a wonderful family. Her husband Dave works at Providence Hospital in Everett. They have three sons and two adorable grandchildren.

When Mrs. Wachob is not teaching school, she enjoys walking, biking, hiking, reading, cooking as well as working in her yard.

Instructional Aide, Ms. Judi Rash

Ms. Rash has an A.A. degree in Early Childhood education and a B. A. in Social and Ethnic Development from University of Washington. She attended St Matthew’s Grade School and Bishop Blanchet High School.

Ms. Rash has been teaching more than 5 years. Prior to her employment as the Instructional Aide for Kindergarten at Holy Rosary, she worked one year with the public schools at New Holly School and two years at St Paul’s School as a substitute. She enjoys being outside and you will often catch her refereeing soccer; she has been a soccer referee for more than 10 years and does so at the collegiate level. She is proud to work at Holy Rosary School.

Ms. Rash is a Seattle native. She has 5 brothers and sisters, 16 nieces and nephews, and 2 children - Alicia and Trevor.

First Grade, Mrs. Susan Kester

A northwest native, Mrs. Kester started her educational journey at Blessed Sacrament School in Seattle. After graduating from Holy Angels School in Ballard, she attended the University of Washington where she received both a Bachelor of Arts and her Education Certification.

Her teaching career began at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Everett where she taught 3rd Grade. After moving around the state, Mrs. Kester went back to school and earned a Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in Reading and Special Education from Central Washington University. She began teaching 1st Grade at Holy Rosary in 1999.

Second Grade, Mrs. Diana Boyle

Mrs. Diana Boyle, a native of sunny Yakima, always wanted to be a teacher when she grew up but decided to stay in the career she started during college. For fourteen years she was in the record and movie business as a retail buyer and manager. Meeting the likes of Tina Turner and Stevie Ray Vaughn will never hold a hat to spending time with her precious Little Angels in the classroom.

Mrs. Boyle graduated from the University of Washington in 1998 with a BA in psychology. She also has an endorsement in special education.

Kirkland is now her home, with husband Kevin and son Ryan. Her mischievous cat, Precious, gives her lots of ideas for teaching writing. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys taking power walks, sewing, gardening, attending Mariner games and reading. By happy coincidence, her parents moved to Edmonds several years ago and are members of Holy Rosary parish.

Third Grade, Mrs. Susan Young

Mrs. Young attended Washington State University for her undergraduate degree and has a B.S in Family and Consumer Science Education. She taught in Oregon for several years and completed a fifth year program in Child and Family Studies. She also has her Vocational Certification. She has a strong background in Art Education, and continues to attend courses integrating art across the curriculum. Recently, she has attended classes in curriculum development for the primary grade level.

Mrs. Young was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School. Both sides of Washington state and Oregon have been her home. She and her husband settled in Edmonds to raise their family in 1987. Holy Rosary Parish has been part of their family life since their son entered Kindergarten in 1988. Their son and daughter are graduates of Holy Rosary School and Blanchet High school.

Her teaching career at Holy Rosary started with an aide position in 1998. Three years later, Mrs. Young was hired to teach Third Grade.

Fourth Grade, Mrs. Rose Short

Mrs. Rose Short attended Catholic schools in Spokane. She wore the same plaid uniform as the students at Holy Rosary. Prior to her teaching career Mrs. Short graduated from University of Washington with a BS in Nursing. She worked as an oncology nurse for many years before deciding to return to school to obtain a teaching certificate. In 2002 she completed her master's degree in education with a specialty in literacy and a reading teacher endorsement. Holy Rosary School has been her second home for 13 years; Mrs. Short’s first class graduated in 2005. After teaching 1st Grade for many years, she currently teaches 4th Grade.

Mrs. Short met her husband Craig during high school. They married and moved to Everett after Craig graduated from Gonzaga University. Mr. and Mrs. Short are the proud parents of three grown girls, Erin, Meghan, and Cailin. Erin is married and lives with her husband in Marysville; they have no children yet, but love their labrador puppies. Meghan graduated from college in the Spring of 2009 and lives in the Los Angeles area. Cailin attends DePaul University, majoring in Theater.

In her spare time Mrs. Short loves to read, travel, spend time with her family and prowl antique stores.

Fifth Grade, Mr. Brian Flanagan

Mr. Flanagan is a Seattle native. In his youth he attended St. Matthew School in north Seattle, and he is a graduate of Blanchet High School. He went to Shoreline Community College then later received a degree in elementary education and music from Western Washington University in Bellingham. Later on Mr. Flanagan completed his master's degree in social studies education at the University of Washington. Teaching is a common theme in his family, with his mom, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all serving as inspiration. He has been a teacher at Holy Rosary since 1988. He teaches fifth grade homeroom and also sixth grade math.

Not necessarily smarter than a fifth grader, Mr. Flanagan nonetheless does have many interests to keep others guessing. He is an accomplished jazz guitarist and performs regularly in public. Mr. Flanagan is a big fan of the Sounders and Huskies, and he still cannot quite get over the fact that his beloved Sonics are gone. He also enjoys playing basketball and soccer; additionally he has been coaching boys’ soccer at Holy Rosary. Other interests of his include cooking, gardening, and traveling. He and his wife live in the Wallingford area. Mr. Flanagan loves his job and very much appreciates having the opportunity to be able to connect with his students and the surrounding community.

Sixth Grade, Mrs. Malia Santucci

Mrs. Santucci grew up in Edmonds, attended college at Western Washington University, and lives with her husband and three children locally. She has been teaching for 17 years in grades five through eight for the Mukilteo School District, and in the fourth and sixth grades here at Holy Rosary.

She spent three years living in the mid-west where she taught preschool for a year, home schooled her daughter, and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She was glad to move back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Her oldest daughter, Lauren, and her son Christopher both attend Archbishop Murphy High School, and her youngest daughter, Sophie, is here at Holy Rosary. Mrs. Santucci enjoys camping, boating, attending theater, music, dance performances, and spending time with her family at the children’s sporting events. Her hobbies include hosting dinner parties to share with friends, relaxing at her lake cabin, tending to her koi pond, and of course reading a good book! Mrs. Santucci’s favorite color is orange, her favorite season is fall, and her favorite food is just about anything involving chocolate! She feels blessed to be teaching at Holy Rosary and loves the sense of community among the staff and students.

7th Grade and Media Specialist, Ms. Carlotta Rojas

Ms. Rojas was born in Rhode Island many years ago. She has been an educator for over 35 years; starting at Holy Family in Kirkland, moving to St. Matthew in Seattle, and then on to St. Luke in Shoreline. Holy Rosary has been home since 1983. She has taught grades one through eight and has directed the Holy Rosary Eighth Grade play for many years and has truly enjoyed her years here at Holy Rosary. Currently, she is the school librarian for all students and teaches 7th Grade English and 8th Grade History, as well as Technology to the 7th and 8th Grade. She has been a part of the Holy Rosary Extended Care program for over 15 years.

She grew up in Coupeville, on Whidbey Island and has 3 siblings. Ms. Rojas attended college in Everett and graduated magna cum laude from Western Washington University.

She has been a foster parent for over 16 years and adopted her son, Donald, when he was twelve. Foster parenting is a very rewarding and positive part of her life. After fostering adolescent boys for 10 years, she has found out that babies are fun too.

Eighth Grade, Mrs. Kelly Stevens

Mrs.Stevens was born and raised in Everett, Washington. Her family lived in the neighborhood of St. Mary Magdalen where she and her six siblings attended school. She graduated from Cascade High School and then went on to Everett Community College while working full time to save for her last two years of college at Western Washington University. Mrs. Stevens' first teaching job was at St. Rose in Longview, Washington. She got homesick and felt very lucky to get a job at St. Mary Magdalen. She worked there for four years and then began her career at Holy Rosary.

During her years at Holy Rosary Mrs. Stevens has taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th Grades. She has also been able to be a part of the Outdoor Education Staff for the 5th and 6th Graders.

She enjoys a good cup of coffe and a crossword puzzle or working on remodeling the house with her husband Mark. She has two children, Spencer and Thea, who are both graduates of Holy Rosary. This is her 23rd year teaching at Holy Rosary.

Physical Education/Lead Teacher, Sr. Kath Silverthorn

Sr. Kath Silverthorn received her Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from Western Washington University. She received a Master's Degree in Exercise Science from Central Michigan University. Sr. Kath has received four advanced certifications; through the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health/Fitness Professional, through the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer, Playground Safety certification through the National Program for Playground Safety at the University of Northern Iowa, and as a post-rehabilitation conditioning specialist. She has been a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace since 1977; their provincial house is in Bellevue, Washington and their community focus is peace and justice.

Sr. Kath teaches K through 8 Physical Education and 7th Grade Religion. She enjoys sharing the Word of God with the students. Sr. Kath came to Holy Rosary in the Fall of 1997 and has been teaching for over 30 years. She has taught 4th Grade, Special Education, secondary Health and Physical Education, and elementary Health and Physical Education. She really enjoys teaching Physical Education because of the students' enthusiasm and love of physical activity.

Sr. Kath taught an evening class to mentally and physically adults at Shoreline Community College in Health Education. She has coached basketball and tennis at Skagit Valley Community College. She has published an article in the American Journal on Mental Retardation called: The Beneficial Effects on Aerobic Capacity and Body Composition in Adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome - the article was based upon her thesis for her Master's Degree.

She grew up in Sedro Wooley with eight siblings. She loves all sports, particularly baseball; her father played in the Brooklyn Dodger organization and was a major league baseball scout most of his adult life. Sr. Kath's biggest accomplishmentin sports was winning the state community college singles tennis championship while attending Skagit Valley Community College. She has played field hockey, basketball, and softball for Western Washington University. She spent many years after college playing field hockey and softball at the club level.

One of her greatest thrills in life was to play on a women's baseball league and attending a national tournament in Peoria, Arizona. She had the opportunity to meet several of the original players from League of Their Own - which was the basis for a movie.

Junior High Science and Advanced Math, Mr. Paul Kester

Mr. Kester has been teaching science at Holy Rosary since 2005. He teaches 5th through 8th grade Science, and 7th grade Washington State history.

Mr. Kester graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Earth Science Education in 1974 and received a Master's Degree in Geology in 2001. During the last nine summers, he has been working with the National Parks Service, in Wyoming, on a paleobotanical project and leading summer field trips for the Northwest Paleontology Society. Mr. Kester is a research associate for the Burke Museum of Culture and Natural History, at the University of Washington. He is an active member of the Geological Society of America (GSA) and the Botanical Society of America (BSA) participating in national conferences and field trips.

Teacher, Ms. Jamie Mulvihill

Ms. Mulvihill is a familiar face at Holy Rosary School. During the 2009-2010 school year she served as an intern under Dr. Carr. During the 2010-2011 school year she frequently substitute taught. She joins us this year as teacher for fifth grade Social Studies, Writing, and Spelling, as well as, eighth grade Pre-Algebra.

Ms. Mulvihill holds a Master’s degree in Education from Seattle University, a BA from the University of Washington, and is currently attempting to master the cello.

Music Specialist, Ms. Susan Olmos

Ms. Susan Olmos began her studies as a Music Major at the University of Hawaii and transferred to the University of Washington in 1979. After receiving and undergraduate degree in 1981, she began her teaching career at Thomas Jefferson High School in the Federal Way School District. After teaching for five years, Ms. Olmos took a brief break and then returned, this time teaching in the private schools. She taught at St. Luke School in Shoreline.

Currently, she is the music teacher and church music director at Holy Rosary. In the Fall of 1998, Ms. Olmos received a Master of Arts in Music from the Universilty of Washington. Church music has been an integral part of her career since 1973.

Ms. Olmos has two sons, Daniel and Nicholas. Her hobbies and interests are astronomy, martial arts, and music composition.

Resource Specialist, Ms. Colleen Daigle

Colleen Daigle runs the Skill Center at Holy Rosary. She began her career at Holy Rosary in 1979. She taught the fourth grade for nine years before starting the Skill Center to help students who learn best in a small group setting. She is a Seattle native and grew up south of the airport on Puget Sound.

She attended Mount Rainier High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Seattle University with a major in Special Education. She taught in the public schools for two years before coming to Holy Rosary.

In 1995 she adopted her oldest daughter, Kiera and five years later adopted Talia. Kiera graduated from Holy Rosary in 2008 and is currently attending Archbishop Murphy High School. Talia is a sixth grader at Holy Rosary.

Colleen enjoyed teaching fourth grade, but in 1988 was asked to use her skills in special education to start the Skill Center for students who have different learning styles. The Skill Center serves students whose special needs may be best met individually or in small groups. Students attend the Skill Center for help in reading, spelling, writing, math or study skills.

Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Kate Scott

Mrs. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Arizona and a Teaching a Second Language endorsement from Seattle University. She has also lived in Vera Cruz, Mexico for a year and has visited Spain, Peru, and Brazil. Her extended family is bilingual with several members including her step-mother living in Mexico.

She has been teaching for over five years. She taught kindergarten in the public schools in Everett before coming to Holy Rosary. Mrs. Scott grew up in Colorado. She has two children in college.

Instructional Aide, Mrs. Julie Mackin

Mrs. Mackin was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She attended University of Oregon and Portland State University where she earned a degree in education. She began her teaching career with the Parkrose School District in East Multnomah County where shetaught fourth grade.

Later, she married and had two children, a son and a daughter. Her husband was transferred to Spokane where they lived for five years, and then they moved to Edmonds. Our children graduated from Holy Rosary School and both are officers in the US Army. She has taught 3rd through 8th Grade in the Archdiocese for Seattle for over 25 years. She is currently a teacher’s aide for 1st through 4th Grades.

Director of Technology, Mrs. Sheila Walde

Mrs. Walde attended Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Religious Studies. While working as a Software Engineer in the telecommunications industry, she attended night school at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York and received her Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Software Development. Prior to joining the staff of Holy Rosary, she worked both as a software developer and as a manager. When her older children were still in elementary school, she worked as a Pre-school teacher for 2 year-olds.

She is originally from Mahopac, New York, where her older children attended the same parochial school as her. In 2006, she and her husband moved their family to Edmonds and became a part of the Holy Rosary family. They have 4 children - Caitlin who is a freshman studying Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic University in Massachusetts, Stephan who is enrolled in the IB program at Edmonds-Wooodway, and Andrew and Kyle who are both enrolled in Holy Rosary. She is the youngest of 5 children - all of whom still live in the Mahopac area.

Mrs. Walde enjoys hiking, taking walks on the beach looking for sea glass with her family, reading, and gardening.

Director of Extended Care, Mrs. Sharon Johnson

Mrs. Johnson has been a member of Holy Rosary Parish since 1967 and an employee of Holy Rosary School since 1990. As Director of Ancillary Services, Mrs. Johnson has been supervisor of the National School Lunch Program (1991-2007), Pro Tem office assistant, playground supervisor, “twenty year” staff member of Outdoor Education and director of Extended Care. She is especially proud of creating a nurturing and enjoyable environment for children in the state licensed after school program. She strives to ensure a safe and Christian environment for the students. She embraces responsibility and is dedicated to the mission of Holy Rosary School.

Born in Everett, Mrs. Johnson was raised in the Shoreline area of North Seattle. After graduating from college she married her childhood sweetheart in 1964. The Johnsons have three children Catherine, Michael and Steven (graduates of Holy Rosary School). She is especially proud of her family and considers her children to be her greatest accomplishment. They enjoy the time they are able to spend with their family and nine grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson also enjoys the weekends with her husband touring the back roads of the Northwest or cruising the waters of Puget Sound on their beloved Ebb Tide.

Office and Extended Care Assistant, Mrs. Michelle Chia

Prior to joining Holy Rosary, Mrs. Chia worked in the Real Estate field for 25 years. She was born in San Diego, California, but has lived in Washington most of her life. She grew up in the Burien area, then moved to Enumclaw and attended Green River Community College. In 1980 she moved to Denver to live with her father and took courses in Office Administration at Barnes Business College.

She has been married since 1995 to Kirk Chia, and in 2002 their son Kadon was born. She has two older sons from a previous marriage, Michael and Brandon and a step-daughter Melinda. She moved to Edmonds so it would be more convenient for their son to attend school at Holy Rosary.

Facilities Manager, Mr. Dave Johnson

Mr. Johnsom was born in the Mid-west and raised in the Northwest. He attended the University of Washington. After many years of service and dedication, he retired from the wholesale hardware business.

He had served on the Edmonds Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT, before retiring in 1995. He retired with Honorable Discharge from the Army National Guard.

He is currently employed by Holy Rosary Parish as the Facilities Manager. He and his wife, Sharon, have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and boating.
