Summer Reading
Hooray! Summer 2026 is here – which means more time for reading! Whether you read a paperback at the beach, an e-book in a tree or an audio-book on a road trip, reading adventures await you.
Below is a list of required and suggested books. While teachers may require a student to take an Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz on their required summer reading book, other teachers may have other ways to ensure students have completed their required reading. Please reach out to your child’s teacher should you have questions regarding summer reading requirements.
You can find Accelerated Reader (AR) book titles by browsing the AR book finder. You can search this by author, reading levels, quizzes available, etc. Go to https://www.arbookfind.com/default.aspx. It has over 150,000 titles for which quizzes are available. If you loved a book, please consider donating it to the HR library to share it with others.
Half Price Books has a summer reading program with recommendations, summer reading camp, reading lists, scavenger hunt and craft ideas. Check it out: http://hpb.com/summer

Accelerated Reader Open House
Students may come to school to take an AR quiz for any summer reading they have done. This is optional. They will have time to do this once they get back to school in September too.
